What we do with Microsoft 365

Everything from the first migration to the day-to-day day, plus the bits most businesses forget until something breaks.

Exchange Online & email

Setup, mailbox management, distribution lists, shared mailboxes, delegation, forwarding, spam filtering, DKIM/SPF/DMARC. Migrations from on-prem Exchange, POP/IMAP or Google Workspace.

SharePoint & OneDrive

Sensible site architecture, folder structures that scale, permissions that don't leak, migration from file servers, external sharing controls.

Teams

Setup, channel structure, meeting policies, Teams telephony, external federation, guest access, room devices, retention.

User lifecycle

New starter onboarding (accounts, licences, devices), leaver offboarding (secure account closure, data preservation, licence recovery), role changes.

Migration from Google or on-prem

Cutover migrations from Google Workspace, on-premise Exchange, Rackspace, hosted providers. Cleanly, with minimal downtime, and with data intact.

Licensing consultancy

Which licence tier suits your business (Business Basic, Standard or Premium, or the enterprise E-series). Right-sizing what you already have. Buying via CSP for better terms.

Security add-ons

MFA rollout, conditional access, mobile device management via Intune, information protection labels, sensitivity classification.

M365 backup

A third-party backup for your M365 data — because Microsoft doesn't back it up for you the way many businesses assume.

Ongoing day-to-day support

The everyday problems: password resets, email not sending, meeting invitations not arriving, Teams weirdness, SharePoint permissions. Same team, same faces.

Common Microsoft 365 problems we fix

Five recurring themes we see when we inherit a Microsoft 365 tenant from another provider — or when a business realises no one's been looking after it properly.

On the wrong licence tier

Paying for Business Premium when Standard would do. Or paying for Standard when the security features of Premium would be worth the uplift. We audit licences and flag what makes sense to change.

No M365 backup

Microsoft don't back up your M365 data the way many businesses assume. Retention is short. Recovery is limited. We deploy proper third-party backup with 12-month+ retention for very sensible money.

MFA not properly rolled out

MFA is only useful if it's enforced. Half-configured MFA gives false confidence. We roll out MFA properly, with conditional-access rules for the awkward edge cases (executives, service accounts, break-glass admins).

SharePoint sprawl

Twenty-three "team" sites, none of them well organised, sensitive documents in random places, external sharing enabled by default. We audit and consolidate.

Legacy authentication still enabled

Older protocols like IMAP, POP3 and SMTP AUTH bypass MFA and are the primary vector for compromise. We disable them properly, with exceptions handled through app passwords or modern replacements.

Migration to Microsoft 365

We migrate businesses to Microsoft 365 from all the common places — Google Workspace, on-premise Exchange, Rackspace hosted email, POP/IMAP from smaller hosts, and the occasional file server that needs to become SharePoint.

Our approach: plan properly, pilot with a small group before the whole business goes, migrate mail and data in overnight windows so working hours aren't disrupted, and be present on cutover day with the people who feel the impact.

Depending on scope, we can quote a migration as a fixed price when the work is well-defined, or bill it at our standard hourly rate for less predictable projects. Either way, we scope properly up front so there are no surprises about what we're doing or roughly what it will cost.

Want a Microsoft 365 audit?

A one-off consultative review of your existing tenant — licensing, security posture, backup, hygiene — with a plain-English list of what's working, what isn't, and what would be worth fixing. Fixed-price, typically half a day's work.

Microsoft 365 — common questions

We're on Google Workspace — is switching to Microsoft 365 worth it?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Google Workspace is genuinely excellent for many businesses — simpler, cheaper at the low tier, better real-time collaboration for cross-editing. Microsoft 365 wins on Office application depth, enterprise integrations, Teams telephony, mature admin tooling and compliance features. We don't push migration just for the sake of it. If Google Workspace suits you, we'll say so.
How long does a Microsoft 365 migration take?
For a 10-person business migrating from an on-premise Exchange server or Google Workspace, expect 3–6 weeks end to end: planning, tenant setup, test migration for a pilot group, full migration in stages, cutover, aftercare. Bigger businesses take longer, mostly due to change management rather than technical time.
Do we need to back up Microsoft 365?
Yes — and this surprises many people. Microsoft's own guarantees only cover them losing your data, not you losing it (accidental deletion, ransomware, a leaver's mailbox purged on day 30, etc.). A third-party backup with proper retention costs a few pounds per user per month and is genuinely essential.
What's the difference between Business Standard, Business Premium and E3?
Business Standard is core Office apps + Exchange + Teams + SharePoint. Business Premium adds Intune (mobile device management), Azure AD Premium (better security), and information protection — worth the uplift for most businesses taking security seriously. E3 is the enterprise equivalent and only makes sense above ~300 users. E5 adds advanced security (Defender, Purview compliance) that most SMEs don't need but some regulated firms do.
Can you support Microsoft 365 alongside our existing IT team?
Yes. We work alongside internal IT teams regularly — often on the M365 or security side where they want senior expertise on tap without hiring for it. Pay-as-you-go by default, no lock-in.
Do you resell Microsoft licences or do we buy them ourselves?
Either works. We can buy licences on your behalf via a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner, which often gives you better terms and consolidated billing. If you'd rather buy direct through Microsoft, that's fine too — we help you configure them, either way.
What about Cyber Essentials Plus with Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 done properly makes Cyber Essentials Plus significantly easier — MFA, patch management, secure configuration and access control are all supported natively. We frequently combine M365 hardening work with CE Plus preparation. See our Cyber Essentials Plus page for the certification process.
